GORONGOSA INTERDISCIPLINARY FIELD SCHOOL IN HUMAN EVOLUTION

Join us in exploring the fascinating realms of primatology, paleoanthropology, and archaeology amidst the vibrant ecosystem of Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique. Seize this remarkable opportunity to delve into the depths of human evolution—more info on the link below.

Primatology

The Park has a diverse and thriving primate community, including baboons, vervets, Samango monkeys, and two species of nocturnal galagos. Students work closely with researchers studying the behaviour, genetics, and ecology of baboons.

Paleontology

The Park’s unique ecological and geological features make it an excellent analogue of early hominin rift valley environments. Students document and analyze modern vertebrate bone assemblages to understand past species’ behavior and fossilization processes.

Archeology

The newly discovered sites under excavation offer students a unique opportunity to participate in scientific discovery, documentation, and analysis. Students learn firsthand how paleoanthropologists and archaeologists work in the field.

About Us

We provides students with a unique opportunity to learn about primatology, paleoanthropology, archeology, and related disciplines while conducting research in one of the richest ecosystems in Africa, Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. The field school combines intensive classroom teaching with practical laboratory training, field observations of primate ecology and social behaviour, paleontological surveys and archaeological excavations.

Gorongosa National Park is located at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley, where researchers of the Paleo-Primate Project Gorongosa are investigating the evolutionary history of the Gorongosa ecosystem.
