Mozambican students receive PAST grant

We are delighted to announce that the Mozambican cohort of 12 students participating in this year’s edition of the Gorongosa Interdisciplinary Field School in Human Evolution has been awarded a generous grant from PAST (Palaeontological Scientific Trust). This funding will cover their travel expenses, including flights from Maputo to Beira and transfers from Beira to Chitengo at Gorongosa National Park, as well as food, hosting, and other essential expenses during their stay in the park.

Empowering African Students in Origin Sciences

PAST is an organization dedicated to fostering African collaboration and funding in the origin sciences. It offers financial support for research, bursaries, and technical capacity to postgraduate students and senior researchers working on African excavations, at African museums, or studying at African universities within the origin sciences.

The PAST grant program is designed to empower education and science on the African continent by collaborating with businesses, governments, and individual donors to raise and distribute funds. The organization supports applicants who have shown a passion for and dedication to developing and growing their field and the communities they work in through skills and research development.

Opportunities for the Future

The students will have the opportunity to conduct research in one of Africa’s richest ecosystems, Gorongosa National Park, located at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley. This experience will provide them with invaluable practical knowledge and skills in various disciplines, including primatology, paleoanthropology, archaeology, and related fields.

Looking Forward

This grant represents a significant step in empowering young Mozambican students to contribute to the scientific community and enhance their skills and knowledge. We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful to PAST for their generous support.
